Pastor Mark A. Marsten, ThD, MDiv, has released Hosea: Prophet of Doom and Hope, a verse-by-verse commentary designed to help readers better understand the message delivered by the prophet Hosea and its relevance for Christians in the modern world.
In this insightful work, Pastor Marsten examines Hosea’s message to Israel and Judah, exploring the consequences of turning away from God while highlighting the enduring truth of God’s judgment, mercy, and faithfulness. The book encourages readers to reflect on how the lessons found in Hosea apply to their own spiritual journeys and daily lives.
Pastor Marsten was inspired to write this commentary as part of his broader mission to complete a verse-by-verse study of all 12 Minor Prophets. Through these writings, he hopes to help believers gain a deeper understanding of the prophets’ messages and demonstrate how Scripture continues to speak to the challenges of the 21st century.
Before entering ministry, Pastor Marsten served his country in both the U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force. After a combat tour in Vietnam with the Army’s 5th Special Forces, he later flew B-52 aircraft and served in leadership roles, including squadron commander and Operational Test Manager for major cruise missile acquisition programs. Following his military retirement after 27 years of service, he was ordained into the Gospel Ministry and served as a hospital and hospice chaplain, police chaplain, missionary leader, seminary instructor, and Christian radio host.
At the heart of Hosea: Prophet of Doom and Hope is a message of accountability and restoration: when people distance themselves from God and disregard His guidance, they risk losing their way. Yet, the book also emphasizes that God remains faithful and loving, offering hope and redemption to those who return to Him.
