The Life and Times of Rising Musician Mr. Rockstar

Talented individuals often have deep stories to tell. There is a certain struggle that comes with passion, but for Marvin Chappell, the challenges were far more dire than the rest. A talented musician from the early days of his childhood, he had always been passionate about music growing up. Straight out of Charleston, South Carolina, he began rapping at the age of 14 and never looked back.

Marvin Chappell would often write songs to relive his headspace at certain situations that he faced in life, officially establishing his first rap name, Trey, and he was part of a group called Young Tymers. Growing up, he expressed that he was always singled out, so he wrote a lot of parodies, poems, sonnets, which became outlets for his feelings. “I have always been known for making music and songs about anything,” he expressed. Trey eventually took up his new rap name, Mr. Rockstar and molded his artistic brand accordingly.

On the 8th of May 2001, Mr. Rockstar was shot in the upper hip while walking to the corner store. He was hospitalized and required constant therapy during the healing process. “I was already a mental basket case before the event and was really paranoid and battle-ready,” expressed the rising rapper.

In 2002, Mr. Rockstar faced his first criminal conviction when getting into a fight with a student at school while carrying a weapon. He was arrested and spent six months at Midlands inside Columbia, South Carolina. Upon his release, he transferred to a school in a different district and had to see a licensed psychologist.

Mr. Rockstar fought hard and got his degree and even got a college enrollment at USC. However, he still had problems with employment and always got back in the streets, having trouble coping with the world around him. In 2003, he got three charges for drugs, stolen goods, among others. He ended up in a bind yet again and had to leave school even with a 3.916 GPA.

In spite of the many trials and tribulations he faced, Mr. Rockstar continued to write music and even cut some singles with Charleston, South Carolina producers BB Slimm and TwinD1st Century. He flew under the radar for about five years, writing songs and trying to find steady work, but still perfecting his craft along the way.

He eventually found his footing with Rip from Island Gorillaz, recording the famous How U Rockin Vol. 1. Mr. Rockstar then took the initiative to put out more work with his new producer Chief on da beat, completing How U Rockin Vol. 2 and 3. However, he sadly fell into another rut and got into a serious wreck where he woke up in the hospital. Nowadays, he has severe seizures and multiple cases of head trauma, experiencing constant pains.

“I started a Life by Faith Campaign in 2016 to sell or collect donations to help Crime Victims, Disabled people, and the homeless mainly because I had to deal with these problems in my lifetime,” said Mr. Rockstar regarding his philanthropic endeavors. On the music side of things, he put out two mixtapes and Eps called Tunna Beat Project and Block Work. Rising through all the challenges that befell him, it’s clear to see that Mr. Rockstar is here to stay, and he’s always here to rise to the occasion.

Mr. Rockstar recently released his new single “All Day (I’m a Rockstar)” for his upcoming album Rockstar Legend.
